I had no idea Preston's legacy ran so deep. Thanks for reclaiming him and his work. Now I know why I found myself drawn to watching him in the Get Back documentary. What a beautiful talent and tragic loss to so much art.

Beautiful piece on the complexities of a man who brought so much uncomplicated joy to so many. May he rest in peace.

Thanks for sharing Preston’s personal story, which I didn’t know. So tragic. (My copy of Some Girls shows Bill Wyman on bass on Miss You, not Billy Preston. Of course, he played on other Stones songs as you note.)

Hi Marcus, thanks for reading! I should clarify - Billy came up with the bass line in a brainstorm with Bill. He's not the one playing it on the track.

wonderful piece! so much I did not know about Preston and his life. thanks for such a well-arranged essay about a man that never got the recognition he deserved. it indeed was tragic that when he finally was ready to face his demons and live his truth, he passed.

Fantastic work as always, Jami! I’ve got a copy of “It’s My Pleasure” here at the house. Good excuse to give it a spin on this rainy Friday.
